Where to Buy a Monitor
Whether you need a replacement monitor or a second monitor for your computer, you can purchase a monitor from several places. There are different benefits to each, and where you buy your monitor often depends on your needs.
A computer store or department store is the most obvious place to purchase your monitor. CompUSA, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and Target are just a few of the stores that sell computer monitors. The benefit here is that these stores often have monitors set up for display. You can look over the monitor, see what kind of image it displays, and ask store clerks any questions you might have about the monitor. The downside here is that sometimes the stores don’t have a huge selection. This is especially true if you’re shopping at department stores that carry a wide array of items, not just electronics.
If you want a huge selection of computer monitors, you’ll want to shop online. Here, you can compare the features and prices of hundreds if not thousands of different monitors, some of which you may not be able to find in an actual store. While you have a lot more choices by shopping online, there are a few downsides to shopping online. For one, you can’t actually see the monitor. You also have to pay for shipping and handling, which can often be a good amount. Even if the price of the monitor online is a bit less than it is in a store, the cost comes out to be about the same once you factor in shipping.
Another option is to shop at a refurbished computer store. These monitors are often cheaper than you’ll find either online or at a large chain store. However, the downside here is that the monitors are refurbished, which means they may not last as long as a new monitor, and they most likely won’t be backed by any sort of warranty or guarantee. They also tend to be older monitors. This means you may not be able to find that sleek new flat panel monitor you want at one of these stores. However, if you just need a cheap monitor for a computer for the kids or for a machine that will only be used for email and light work, you may find what you want at a refurbished store.
Of course, these options are only good if you’re looking for a second monitor or a replacement one. If you’re buying a brand new computer, chances are it will come with a monitor. In this case, you may or may not have any choice in the monitor you get. If you shop in a store, you will most likely have to take the monitor that comes bundled with the computer. If you shop online, you may have a small selection of monitors to choose from. Generally, the only difference between these choices is the size of the monitor.
No matter where you shop for a monitor, you will have a few choices, and you should be able to find exactly what you want with a little patience and shopping around.
